The latest on upgrades at the Cleveland Country Club

The Cleveland Country Club has cleared another hurdle in a large goal more akin to a marathon than a race.

About a year ago, a $1.5 million renovation began to the inside and outside of the nearly 100-year-old business.

The latest completion includes an updated dining and bar area that will reopen to members by reservation beginning Sept. 28.

“I am thrilled to join the Cleveland Country Club team and to partake in enhancing Shelby’s evolving dining scene,” said recently hired Executive Chef Zach Anderson. “I look forward to introducing new flavors and elevating seasonal menu selections through our new dining concept.”

Here are five things to know about the club and its renovations:

1. A new dining experience

JPS Building and Lawler Design Studios of Shelby were contracted to oversee the renovation and design of the enhanced dining facilities. The redesigned dining area now features a large outdoor courtyard with fire pits and couches. Guests who prefer inside dining will be able to go to the cafe-style seating and a large winding bar available for both drinking and dining.

A new menu will debut for lunch and dinner. The new menus feature locally sourced proteins and produce, fresh seasonal ingredients and house-made sauces and dry rubs.

2. Outdoor amenities

In the last 12 months, significant strides have been made to improve the club, such as repainting the tennis courts, repairing the parking lot, resurfacing all clay tennis courts and renovating the bunkers on the golf course.

Still on the horizon is the creation of a resort-style pool that will be completed in the next phase of renovations.

3.Long history

Established in 1927, the country club did some restructuring more than a year ago to try and revive membership and participation.

Part of that plan involved the current remodel, and members donated around $1.5 million to fund the project.

4. Active outside

Despite COVID-19 restrictions, the club was able to continue to offer access to outdoor activities during the pandemic. The facility has an 18-hole golf course which spans 6,409 yards. There are putting and practice areas, golf lessons and clinics and tennis instruction for juniors and adults.

5. Various memberships

The club leadership has established membership options, including equity, non-equity, young executive, and out-of-county classification for those who live more than 50 miles away from the club. Anyone interested in pricing can call 704-482-1711.
